Soldiers Beach: Discover This Popular Central Coast Beach

Soldiers Beach is an untouched beach located at Norah Head on the NSW Central Coast.

If you’re looking for a relaxing beach getaway close to Sydney, Norah Head is only 1 hr 40 min north of Sydney on the M1 Pacific Motorway.

It’s pristine, natural, and one of my favourite beaches.

The beach is popular for surfing and swimming. It’s patrolled from the Sept/Oct school holidays to the Apr school holidays. Swim between the flags to stay safe.

The beach is very clean too; the water quality was classified as 'Very Good' by the NSW Government’s Beachwatch report.

And it’s one of the few beaches protected from the north-easterly winds that blow strong in summer.

So this beach is clean and comfortable... a great spot to spend the day, sit back and enjoy the sun. 

Or surf...

If you like fishing, head to the rock platform near the lighthouse or Pelican Point.

Have lunch and coffee at the kiosk at the Surf Life Saving Club.

Or even better, head to Surfside Snax cafe on the hill at the northern end of the beach. There are great views overlooking the beach. Pull a chair and watch surfers.

This place can’t be beaten on a sunny day.

For dinner with a five-star view, eat at Anthony’s Kitchen & The Sunset Bar at the Surf Life Saving Club. Open Fri from 4 pm and Sun from 12 pm.

Norah Head is a lovely quiet village with a well-known landmark: Norah Head Lighthouse.

Norah Head Lighthouse is worth visiting.

Take a 30-minute tour of the lighthouse for only $6 (daily 10.00 am - 1.30 pm). Volunteers will walk you up the 96 steps to the top balcony for panoramic views while telling you compelling stories about the history of the lighthouse.

If you like walking, walk around and near the lighthouse to the huge rock platform, along the beaches, through the nature walk and to the rock pool if you have kids. 

Also, visit Ark Cafe, a popular cafe beside a playground and the rock pool.

Accommodation Near Soldiers Beach

• Norah Head Holiday Park is the closest accommodation to the beach –  a 10-minute walk down the hill. The swimming pool and jumping pillow are a big hit with children. Read reviews. 

• Norah Head Lighthouse cottages are located a short drive from the beach. The cottages are fabulous and so are the views. Read reviews. 

• You can rent a holiday home near the beach through a website such as Airbnb. 

Getting to Soldiers Beach

From Sydney follow M1 Pacific Motorway toward Newcastle and take exit Warnervale / Toukley. There's a free car park along Soldiers Point Dr.
