Gerrin Point Lookout

Ocean views from Gerrin Point Lookout overlooking Maitland Bay in Bouddi National Park

Last verified 05/26

Gerrin Point Lookout is a viewing platform in Bouddi National Park overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Enjoy sweeping views along the cliffs and across to Maitland Bay.

The lookout is 1.2 km from Putty Beach, along the boardwalk section of the Bouddi Coastal Walk. The walk starts with a series of stairs, but the boardwalk to the lookout is easy and mostly flat.

You may also spot whales in winter.

The walk suits most visitors who can manage the stairs at the start.

Why visit Gerrin Point Lookout?

If you’re visiting Bouddi National Park for the first time and don’t want to tackle the full Coastal Walk, Gerrin Point Lookout is an excellent place to walk to. The walk is relatively easy after the initial stairs and rewards you with some of the park’s best coastal scenery.

How to Get to Gerrin Point Lookout?

Here are three ways to reach Gerrin Point Lookout.

From Putty Beach

This is the easiest and most direct route. Follow the Bouddi Coastal Walk from Putty Beach for about 1.2 km.

The walk starts with a series of stairs. After that, the track follows an easy boardwalk with wide ocean and coastal views.

From Bullimah Lookout

For a quieter walk, start with the 3 km track from the Maitland Bay Information Centre to Bullimah Lookout. A less-used bush track then links Bullimah Lookout with Gerrin Point Lookout.

This route feels more off the beaten track and lets you visit two lookouts in one walk.

From Maitland Bay Track

You can also reach Gerrin Point Lookout from the Maitland Bay Track. This option lets you visit Maitland Bay before continuing along the Bouddi Coastal Walk towards the lookout. The walk is 2 km.

It is a good choice if you want to combine a secluded beach with Gerrin Point Lookout.

Is Gerrin Point Lookout worth visiting?

Absolutely. While the lookout itself is beautiful, I think the walk is just as memorable. After climbing the stairs from Putty Beach, you’ll follow an elevated boardwalk that hugs the coastline, with wide ocean views almost the entire way. It’s one of my favourite sections of the Bouddi Coastal Walk.
