Avoca Beach Theatre is a family-run cinema at Avoca Beach. It began in 1948 with outdoor film screenings in the Hunter family’s front garden. The same family still owns and runs the theatre today.
The theatre shows films and hosts live music, film festivals and special events. Its single-screen setting feels very different from a large cinema complex. The old movie posters and local character make the theatre part of the Avoca Beach village experience.
There’s an in-house café and licensed wine and cocktail bar. You can buy coffee, cold drinks, sweet treats and sourdough pizza. Drinks can usually be taken into the cinema.
The theatre has step-free entry and wheelchair spaces with nearby companion seats. Accessible toilets are available. The theatre also offers free listening headphones and regular open-caption screenings. Companion Cards are accepted for standard movie sessions.
