Box Head Track is a short bushwalk in Bouddi National Park with wide views over Broken Bay, Lion Island and Barrenjoey Headland.
The lookout at the end is the main attraction, with a bench where you can sit and enjoy the view. Along the way, you can also look back towards Tallow Beach and the Bouddi coastline.

How Difficult Is It?
The track is Grade 3, but it feels easier than that rating may suggest.
The walk is 3.1 km return and usually takes between 45 minutes and 1 hour 15 minutes. Expect gentle hills, a few steps and some uneven ground. Most people who are steady on their feet should manage it.
The main challenge is the sandstone and rocks underfoot, so wear proper walking shoes. The bushland provides some shade, and the track is easy to follow and usually quiet.
For official track notes and alerts, see the NSW National Parks Box Head Track page.

Combine with Other Walks
Two other walks start from the same area on Hawke Head Drive, making it easy to see more of the park while you are there.
Add Tallow Beach
The steep Tallow Beach Trail starts near the same car park. It is 1.2 km each way and leads down to the beach and small walk-in campground.
Add the Walk to Lobster Beach
The Flannel Flower Track leads to Lobster Beach. It’s about 2.9 km return on its own and takes about an hour.
How to Get There
Box Head Track starts at the end of Hawke Head Drive, off The Scenic Road near Hardys Bay.
Parking: at the small car park at the end of Hawke Head Drive, and it’s free.
The last part of Hawke Head Drive is unsealed and can be rough. NSW National Parks recommends a four-wheel drive and says one is required in wet weather. I have driven it in a smaller car in dry weather, but I had to take some sections slowly.
Tips
Bring water. There are no facilities at the trailhead or along the track.
Dogs aren’t allowed anywhere in Bouddi National Park, including this track.
